1st Lt. William Herr Myers, an Elizabethtown resident, was reported missing in November of 1945. Imagine being told your son is missing two months after Japan surrendered. What happened? How did the government inform Edith Myers, Lt. Herr Myers’ mother? What efforts were made to find this soldier?
Winters Heritage House Museum will host a WWII exhibit outlining the moving and long journey the family of 1st Lt. William Herr Myers undertook to find the answers to how and where he went missing. It is a fascinating story that spans 69 years.
The Museum’s display will include photographs of Lt. Myers during his active service, letters Lt. Herr Myers sent to his mother, newspaper and magazine articles about the search efforts of the family, and personal items of Lt. Myers that have been delivered to us by Lt. Myers’ nephew including his aviator glasses, goggles, wings and more.
The exhibit will also include general WWII information, shell trench art, WWII service uniforms, and a collection of period pieces, including a Welcome Home banner, lent to us by local residents.
Admission is $3. Museum members, children under 13, and those eligible for Museums for All receive free admission.
This exhibit will be on display from November 21, 2023 to December 8, 2023.

Wednesday, November 22: 2p.m. – 5 p.m.;
Saturday, November 25: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.;
Sunday, November 26: 2 – 4 p.m.;
and Monday, November 27: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Wednesday, November 29 through Friday, December 1: 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
and Wednesday, December 6 through Friday, December 8: 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
